Victor Oladipo may not be participating in the All-Star Game tonight, but he’s already made his mark on All-Star Weekend.

Before you read anything else, stop and watch this video. I promise any words/emotions that come after will not nearly have as much meaning.

I got goosebumps at about the 59 second mark; Oladipo started singing at the 57 second mark. R Kelly is an incredible singer and Dipo legit outshined him on his own song.

This performance led Oladipo to winning the first ever NBA Talent Show. His competitors included a piano playing CJ Miles, a guitar playing Chris Bosh, a ping-pong playing Devin Booker and a trio of rappers including Iman Shumpert, Lou Williams and Metta World Peace.

But as soon as Oladipo’s segment aired the competition was over. I’d say it happened when Vic got to the hook and belted out “I believe I can fly” as he literally unfurled his arms.

The emotion that Dipo displayed was impressive. Now it’s time he turns that passion from the booth and bring it onto the basketball court.

More from Thunderous Intentions

Oladipo is an incredibly talented basketball player. He can shoot, dribble, pass, defend…anything you need Dipo can do it. His 16-3-4 statline is solid, but it’s not enough from the 24-year old. It’s eerily similar to his career statline; that’s not a factoid you want from your fourth year player.

It’s not that Oladipo’s plateaued as a player. His shooting percentages have increased every year, he’s decreased his turnovers every year. The problem is that Oladipo doesn’t have the confidence to match his skills.

In his Talent Show segment Oladipo talks about how singing and basketball are related. When he stepped in the booth it was evident that all of his fears went away. It was pure Dipo. That’s what we need to see on the basketball court.

For Oladipo to believe he can fly.
