Brooklyn Nets:

Trades/Moves:

Sean Marks made two moves:

Trade 1:

Brooklyn Nets Receive:

PF – Andrew Nicholson: 2.5 PPG, 1.2 RPG, 0.2 APG,  46% FG%, 34% 3PFG%, 57.1% FT%
SG – Marcus Thornton: 6.6 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 1.2 APG,  40% FG%, 35% 3PFG%, 85.2% FT%
and a 2017 first-round lottery-protected draft pick (lottery-protected)

Wizards Receive:

  • SG- Bojan Bogdanovic
  • PF – Chris McCullough

Trade 2:

Brooklyn Nets  Receive:

G/F – K.J. McDaniels: 2.8 PPG, 1.0 RPG, 0.1 APG,  45.6% FG%, 33.3% 3PFG%, 90.0% FT%

Rockets Receive: Cap Space ($3.3M)

This second trade feels like a grand slam for Marks.  McDaniels has never fit into the 3-point dominant D’Antoni system. Without an emphasis on defense, the athletic McDaniels was wasting away at the end of the Toyota Center bench.

Given the Nets need to improve defensively, finally, K.J. will be freed to showcase his talents and gain playing time. In addition, he’ll be united with a fellow Clemson Tiger in Trevor Booker. That’s two defensive-minded players that should help bolster that end of the court.

Without many assets to utilize, GM Sean Marks wasn’t going to throw away Trevor Booker without receiving something valuable in return. Regardless of the Nets League worst record, Booker has shown true leadership and is one of the reasons the squad never quits, even when they are consistently facing more talented rosters.

The main asset the Nets had to dangle was Brook Lopez. With 2 hours left til the deadline, ESPN‘s Marc Stein reported Marks was looking for an offering of both a first and second-round draft pick. Notably, that was a step down from the original 2 first-round picks Brooklyn originally sought  Since Lopez is signed through next season there was no reason for Marks to make a knee-jerk reaction. Besides, this franchise has been fleeced enough for the franchise’s lifetime.

Final Grade:  B

The addition of McDaniels came at a discount and without many current assets, Marks has to consider that pick up a big win.
