The Possibles

There are four other players in the league who are putting up numbers that should see them top the 2,000 point mark.

DeMar DeRozan

DeMar DeRozan was leading the charge with 33.3 points per game to start the season. However, his scoring fell off after a blinding start to the season. This, coupled with the fact he has missed seven games, sees him needing to score 455 points to break the magical barrier. He is currently scoring at 27.6 points per game meaning that he should tally 2,069 points for the season.

Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Leonard may just be one of the best basketball players going around at the moment. He is the reigning back-to-back defensive player of the year and a chance to score his first 2,000 point season for his career.

Missing five games so far this season will make this number harder to achieve. If he keeps up the 26.3 points per game average for the rest of the season he will just make it. This average will mean a tally of 2,026 points in just 77 games.

Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry has taken a back seat this year to one of the NBA’s most efficient shooters, Kevin Durant. It is testament to Curry’s scoring that he is even on the possible list. If he makes it, Curry will record his second 2,000 point season. I believe that with the injury to Durant, Curry should get there.

Curry’s season average is 24.9 points per game on the season. A player has to score 24.39 points per game over an 82 game season to reach 2,000 points. Curry has missed one game on the season, meaning that he has to score at 24.7 points per game. Curry’s average should see him tally 2,017 points for the season.

LeBron James

LeBron James has already collected nine 2,000 point seasons. This number has him third all-time with Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The only two players on the list above him are Michael Jordan and Karl Malone. If he pulls off another 2,000 point season he moves into outright third, all-time.

This task has been made a little more difficult this season for James by him missing five games so far. However, with that being said, His 26.0 points per game will also see him tally 2,003 points for the season.
