Welcome to Thunderous Thoughts a weekly look at the OKC Thunder. Or, a weekly tournament update that has nothing to do with what you see on the court.

Last week the Official OKC Thunder Song Tournament began. Sixteen Thunder songs entered, only eight survived. Who made it out of the first round alive?

1. Thunderstruck (AC/DC) vs. 16. Thunder Prince (Sahtyre)

This one wasn’t close, with Thunderstruck receiving 92 percent of the votes. Not exactly surprising. Thunder Prince was probably unheard of heading into the tournament and Thunderstruck is the number one seed for a reason. Looks like we’ll have to wait another year to potentially see a sixteen seed upset a one.

2. Thunder Rolls (Garth Brooks) vs. 15. Thunderhorse (Deathklock)

My personal favorite, Thunder Rolls, had no trouble with Thunderhorse, winning 86 percent to 14. This just proves once and for all that country music is better than death metal.

3. God of Thunder (Kiss) vs. 14. Gimme Some Lovin (Spencer Davis Group)

Things were a little closer in the three vs. fourteen match-up, but the favorites continued to hold serve. God of Thunder took 62 percent of the vote. I assume 38 percent of voters were just big Days of Thunder fans, which I can’t blame them for. It’s the best NASCAR movie ever made. And I will fight you if you think Talladega Nights is better.

4. Thunderball (Tom Jones) vs. 13. The Rain (Missy Elliott)

This one came down to the wire. The Rain had a lead at one point, but Thunderball came charging back. In the end, strong veteran play down the stretch led Thunderball to a 52 percent to 48 percent victory. I guess Tom Jones had the keys to the jeep.

5. Thunder in the Night (Elton John) vs. 12. Thunder Buddies (Ted and John Bennett)

No twelve-five upset in this tournament as Thunder in the Night took 65 percent of the votes. Thunder Buddies was likely hurt by the lyrics “F You Thunder” as many Thunder fans took that as a diss towards our beloved Oklahoma City team. I’m bewildered that more Warriors fans didn’t vote for the OKC Thunder diss song.

6. Thunder Road (Bruce Springsteen) vs. 11 Lightning Crashes (Live)

Thunder Road won with 64 percent of the votes. I was really pulling for Lightning Crashes because it’s a great song, but the 70’s were better than the 90’s based on this result. All chalk thus far. This is just as boring as the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

7. Russell Westbrook on a Farm (Lil Dicky) vs. 10 She’s Thunderstorms (Artic Monkeys)

If you’re looking for a sleeper, Russell Westbrook on a Farm might be your best best. The song easily dispatched of She’s Thunderstorms by a 78-22 margin.

8. Sound of Thunder (Duran Duran) vs. 9. Thunder (Boys Like Girls)

In the closest match-up of the first round, Sound of Thunder edged out Thunder by a 51% to 49% margin. Thunder won the electoral college vote, but as stated last week, we don’t abide by that system.

All the top seeds advanced, which just goes to show the importance of the regular season. Never let anyone tell you that regular season games are meaningless.

Our second round looks like this.

1. Thunderstruck (AC/DC)

8. Sound of Thunder (Duran Duran)

Can Thunderstruck continue to dominate? It seems likely, but stranger things have happened.

2. Thunder Rolls (Garth Brooks)

7. Russell Westbrook on a Farm (Lil Dicky)

Oh boy. This should be a battle right here. Thunder Rolls might be the Duke of Thunder songs.

3. God of Thunder (Kiss)

6. Thunder Road (Bruce Springsteen)

Kiss vs. Springsteen battled all throughout the 70’s and 80’s. This is a rivalry renewed and I expect blood to be shed.

4. Thunderball (Tom Jones)

5. Thunder in the Night (Elton John)

A James Bond theme battles one of Elton’s lesser known tracks.

Vote early, and you can only vote once, so since you can’t vote often, share with your friends and tell them who to vote for. Next week we reveal the OKC Thunder Song Final Four.
