Russell Westbrook has done the unimaginable tying a 55 year old record of registering 41 triple-doubles in a season.

All season OKC Thunder fans and Russell Westbrook advocates have been waiting for this moment. Most pundits said it wasn’t possible.  Even when Westbrook was on fire mid season it was felt he wouldn’t be able to continue at the pace he was playing with. Surely, he would tire out and the numbers would stop coming, right? – Wrong!

Westbrook put those thoughts on ice as he not only kept up the torrid pace, but increased it. In the past 13 games he has posted 11 triple-doubles. During this crazy period he has utilized several such efforts to catapult the Thunder ahead for wins after trailing by double digits. Mark Cuban was left choking on his own words citing Westbrook as a non-super star. At Orlando, Westbrook produced the highest scoring triple-double in history.

He knocked off the Hornets, a team he had failed to produce a trip-dub against leaving only the Chicago Bulls as the lone team yet to be conquered in his career.

41 and counting:

Tonight in Milwaukee, Russell Westbrook joined a very small party of one (Oscar Robertson) as he became only the second player in NBA history to produce 41 regular season triple-doubles.  At 9:17 of the third quarter Westbrook grabbed what would be his 10th rebound followed by his 10th assist on the ensuing possession. And while the game continues we here at Thunderous Intentions wanted to congratulate Russell Westbrook for this incredible accomplishment.

Better still, the Thunder still have five games for Westbrook to garner one more triple-double to seize the record all on his own.

The other record of Robertson’s that Westbrook is seeking to match is averaging a regular season triple-double. Entering the game versus the Milwaukee Bucks he needed  just (11) rebounds and (29) assists to also accomplish this goal. Still in the third quarter he only needs 16 more assists this season. He has already produced enough points and rebounds. He’ll have the rest of this game and 5 more to take the seat beside the Big O. Furthermore, for Russ to maintain the thirty point triple-double average he needs to score 25 points. This total includes the 12 points he scored versus the Bucks.

All in all this has truly been a magical season for Russell Westbrook. The question now is how this effects the MVP race. Several pundits, announcers and analysts said Russell Westbrook would have their MVP vote if he matched Robertson. Well now – the proof will be in the pudding!

From all of us here at Thunderous Intentions – CONGRATULATIONS RUSSELL – you’ve made this a magical season!!!
