There are only four games left in the OKC Thunder’s regular season. Are you caught up on your Thunder news? If not, Heather’s Weekly Round Up is here to help.
Episode Three Is Here
Have you been following the hilarity that is Steven Adams‘ and Enes Kanter‘s episodic attempt at highlighting Russell Westbrook‘s MVP candidacy? If not, catch up on the previous two episodes, then check out the one the boys just released (below). Basically, it features strong accents, jokes about Nick Collison‘s age and a wild animal (two wild animals, if you count Steven):
Hist0ry
So, I doubt it’s possible that you could have missed the whirlwind of news stories surrounding Westbrook’s phenomenal season. But just in case, you need to know this: Russell Westbrook officially tied the record for most triple doubles in a season. Russ joins Oscar Robertson for the title, which was created in the ’61-’62 season. Don’t worry about doing that math in your head: it’s 55.
MUST READ: Russell Westbrook is the hands-down MVP
That means 55 years have gone by since the record was tied. And tonight… TONIGHT, folks… Westbrook could break the record and become the first player in NBA history to earn 42 triple doubles in a single season.
Hist0ry Part Two
Westbrook only needs a total of six more assists (that’s basically one per game) to join Oscar Robertson as the only two players in NBA history to average a triple-double in a season. When you watch the game against Pheonix tonight, start counting those assists. There’s a chance we’re going to see history get made in two ways – most triple doubles, and triple double average.
Hist0ry Part Three
In the ’08-’09 regular season, the first year Russell Westbrook played in the NBA, the total number of triple doubles across the league was 30. And, 7 of those were earned by LeBron James. So far this year, there have been a total of 110 league-wide triple doubles. Of those, 41 belong to Russell Westbrook. In case you were wondering – that equates to more than 37% of the total triple doubles. Also, Kevin Durant has 1.

Hist0ry Part Four
Although it’s very difficult to believe, some people don’t think Westbrook should be named MVP this year. Either way, we’ll have to wait longer to hear the news. This year, major awards – including MVP – will be announced on June 26.
