 5. He deserves the kind of contract we cant give him

Though Andre Roberson is a offensive liability, he is a grinder. He has shown great signs of improvement since his rookie season. Roberson has potential to be Defensive Player of the Year one day, and should be on the First Team All-Defense this year.

More from Thunderous Intentions

With that said, there isn’t enough room in The Thunder’s salary to give him the kind of money he actually deserves.

Whenever Oklahoma City traded guard Cameron Payne, Sam Presti (General Manager) said, “We know Cameron Payne is going to be a very, very good player…” in a interview after the Gibson-McDermott trade. “…but it became apparent that he was going to be beyond what we could commit to the position.”

This may just be the same situation with Andre Roberson. With Adams getting $22,471,911 and Oladipo at $21,000,000 next season, Roberson really doesn’t have room to negotiate a Allen Crabbe style contract ($18,500,000).

Thank you Dre, for all of grit, all of the hustle and all the tenacity you brought to Oklahoma City. None of it was overlooked, but it is time to shake hands and say goodbye.
