Russell Westbrook Top 10 list from historic triple-double season
Number 2: Becomes second player ever to average triple-double
Like number one on the top ten list, this record existed for 55 years and most pundits said it would never be broken. Furthermore, many pundits said the 30 point, the triple-double average would never happen, but that’s precisely what Westbrook did.
The game in which Westbrook tied Oscar Robertson may not have been as spectacular as many this season, but it felt suitably perfect. Throughout the course of the season, Westbrook often stated he took what the game gave him. On this evening versus the Milwaukee Bucks that was especially true. He only needed 2 quarters and just under three minutes to capture the elusive 41st triple-double. Russ finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists.
The moment did come with some fanfare as Westbrook grabbed his tenth rebound and wasted no time capturing his tenth assist on the very next offensive set. Taj Gibson was the recipient of the pass. Gibson flushed the ball and became part of history as Russ sidled up to Oscar as only the second player in NBA history to produce 41 triple-doubles while averaging the same mark over the season.
