Number 8: Recorded the highest-scoring triple-double of all time and first perfect trip-dub
As part of Westbrook’s triple-double journey this season multiple records fell. In particular, two such records were noteworthy.
Perfect Triple-Double:
The first perfect triple-double came courtesy of the Philadelphia Seventy Sixers on March 22, 2017. In the game, Russ scored 18 points on his six field-goal attempts notably not missing any shots. In addition, he added 11 rebounds and 14 assists. Of note, this game also marked the beginning of Westbrook’s second 7-game consecutive triple-double streak.
Highest Scoring NBA Triple-Double in history:
Also part of this 7-game streak was the game in Orlando. In this game, Westbrook scored the most points ever in a triple-double performance. This game stands out for many other reasons than his 57 point, 13 rebounds, and 11 assist effort. The Orlando Magic faithful began chanting MVP throughout the contest for Westbrook. This was something Westbrook began to hear more and more frequently in opposing arenas.
Interestingly, the Magic always seem to pose special games of this nature. One such example occurred when teammate Victor Oladipo was still in a Magic jersey. In that contest, Dipo collected his own triple-double and hit an incredible 3-pointer to push the game into double OT. Westbrook also hit an unbelievably deep 3-pointer to send the game into its first overtime.
