The next in the draft history series for the OKC Thunder we take a look at 2013

After two years of having only one pick in the NBA draft, 2013 saw the OKC Thunder have three picks.  Despite the OKC Thunder having the second best record in the NBA in the season just completed, they still had a lottery pick thanks to the James Harden trade. Interestingly, this draft has provided the OKC Thunder with a large number of players but I will go into that later.

First Round

The OKC Thunder selected Steven Adams with the 12th pick of the draft. The 7-foot-0 New Zealand native was very raw. In the next four seasons, Adams has developed into a quality interior defender. His offense is still a little limited but Sam Presti saw enough in the center to sign him to a long term extension last summer.

With the 29th pick the OKC Thunder picked 6-foot-5 combination guard Archie Goodwin. However, Goodwin would not play a game for the Thunder as they traded him for defensive specialist Andre Roberson. Roberson had been taken with the 26th pick in the same draft.

Second Round

With the 32nd pick the OKC Thunder took Spanish sensation Alex Abrines. Abrines did not come over to play in the NBA straight away, being a draft and stash player. He worked on his game in the professional European leagues until the OKC Thunder called on him after Kevin Durant defected to the Golden State Warriors. Abrines just completed a solid rookie season and will, only get better from here.

Players missed out on

The only player who was drafted after Adams who would have made the OKC Thunder better was Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, I will ask the question. Could anyone have predicted the player he was going to become?

Players on the Current Roster

The 2013 draft as a really good one for the OKC Thunder. The number two selection, Victor Oladipo joined the team in June 2016. Adams is still the starting center and has signed a long term contract. Andre Roberson is now a free agent but I believe OKC will be moving the world to sign him. Alex Abrines is now on the Thunder roster and Joffrey Lauvergne was for a portion of last year. That is a full third of the team at the start of last season.
