2017 NBA Draft- Annual Editor’s Mock Draft
Team Needs:
If Millsap wasn’t intent on leaving before he should be packing up the house and calling his agent. This is a squad who has the second-longest current consecutive postseason appearances with ten in a row. It sure seems like they are ready to blow it up and start a new foundation.
Free Agents:
- Jose Calderon – UFA
- Tim Hardaway Jr. – RFA
- Kris Humphries – UFA
- Ersan Ilyasova – UFA
- Paul Millsap – UFA
- Mike Muscala – UFA
- Thabo Sefolosha – UFA
Roster Gaps:
A big man to replace Howard and if the rumors are true Millsap is being shopped despite being a free agent. So the Hawks may need an entire starting frontcourt.
Anzejs Pasecniks:
As for Anzejs Pasecniks in TI’s draft prospect preview his skills were highlighted as:
"Much like many European players Anzejs Pasecniks fundamental skills are well developed which translates in his offensive versatility . His ball handling abilities are above average (when he isn’t rushed) and he is equally adept scoring with either hand. Moreover he showcases a rage of offensive scoring capabilities whether at the rim, taking the rock to the rim or extending out to the perimeter. Although he needs to work on his rage the potential is there to develop this shot. His movement off the ball and in transition show his intelligence which speaks well to his I.Q level and ability to read plays."
Overview:
Atlanta is in a strange quandary. They’ve already shipped out the man(Dwight Howard) who cost them Al Horford last season. Then after seemingly repairing ill-advised shopping of Paul Millsap to keep Horford, they enter the draft having reopened that can of worms.
Even if Millsap stays , at 32 is he the man your franchise should be building around? As much as Dennis Schroder had his moments going at John Wall in the postseason he hasn’t risen to superstar status yet. Best for the Hawks to break up the band and start their rebuild now.
