The Oklahoma City Thunder will welcome its newest star Paul George on Wednesday evening with an introductory press conference. The former Indiana Pacer superstar will get his first taste of the OKC welcome mat.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are going to be exciting this upcoming season. However, much of that excitement stems from one player, Paul George.

George is set to begin a new career in Oklahoma City. The Thunder will introduce George on Wednesday evening to the OKC community. A community which is always welcoming Thunder players with open arms. This morning, Sports Illustrated’s Lee Jenkins published an article with Paul George about his venture to Oklahoma City.

The article talks about a variety of things involving George and OKC. For one, he called former Thunder superstar Kevin Durant and asked him about OKC. According to the article, Durant said: “Oklahoma City will blow you away”.

The article also talks about his lack of relationship with Russell Westbrook. Although, I have a strong feeling that will change this season. George also talks about the speculation of his desire to be a Laker. Naturally, he’d love to follow in the footsteps of Kobe Bryant, although, a strong season in OKC will change that.

This upcoming season will be a critical one for Sam Presti and company. There will be tremendous pressure on Westbrook and George to commit to the Oklahoma City Thunder by signing a contract extension. However, pressuring them into signing is not what we need to do.

More from Thunderous Intentions

I expect that one of the first questions at this press conference will be if George is thinking about signing a contract here. Honestly, I completely understand we are all gun-shy after the events of Durant. But, we do not need to shove a contract in George’s face 10 minutes after his arrival.

Ask for Westbrook, my take on it is simple. Do you really think that Westbrook would leave in the same fashion as Durant? There is no way Westbrook would leave this city after this past season. The idea that Westbrook and George are going to ditch Oklahoma City and join LeBron James in LA is ridiculous.

So, what we as fans should do is enjoy the ride of next season. The Western Conference will be insane next season. Oklahoma City will be right in the thick of things for sure. George, having never played with a superstar, will get a chance to do something special with Westbrook.  We as fans should sit back, grab the popcorn and get ready, cause this will be an epic season.
