The Oklahoma City Thunder are rolling out the red carpet for Paul George. It’s clear that Sam Presti has made a dazzling first impression on the superstar.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are showing Paul George some serious love. Throwing a concert for him, OKC has that warm welcoming Oklahoma spirit in full effect. George couldn’t help but be impressed by it. As he should be, it’s not every day that an entire city goes out of their way to welcome you. In fact, this was one of the first times I’ve ever witnessed something like this.

For the record, I believe what the Thunder are doing is a good thing. Wine-and-dine him, show him the best time he’s ever had. The season doesn’t start until October, let him soak up the local culture. I moved to Oklahoma City in the early 2000’s, I came here from the Little Rock metro in Arkansas. Now, if you know anything about Little Rock, you know it’s a rough city. Arkansas’ capital city doesn’t have the best reputation.

Oklahoma City has a different vibe than most metros. There’s a sense of community here that I’ve never felt before. You could feel it when the Thunder moved here in 2008. This city welcomed the Thunder organization with open arms. We’ve watched as this team asserted itself atop of the Western Conference. We cried when Kevin Durant left for Golden State. We cheered when Russell Westbrook grabbed his 42nd triple-double.

This, along with five other reasons, will give Paul George something to think about when it comes to deciding his future. Some will say that the Oklahoma City Thunder has no choice at retaining George. However, I believe OKC has more of a chance than any team in the league.
