Bryce Alford announced on his own Instagram that he signed a deal with the OKC Thunder.

Bryce Alford: 1 – Oklahoma City Thunder beat writers: 0.

It appears that Alford and the Thunder have agreed to a contract. Nothing has been released from the Oklahoma City organization, however, so the terms of the contract is very much in question. Here’s what we can tell you.

  1. The Thunder already have 16 contracts going into training camp. Everyone but Semaj Christon is guaranteed.
  2. OKC has yet to give out one of the two designated roster spots for G-League/NBA hybrids. It’s very possible Alford’s contract ends up being one one of those.
  3. This is normal procedure for the Thunder. Last year they brought in young prospects to training camp like Chris Wright and Alex Caruso – both ended up playing for the OKC Blue during the season.

More from Thunderous Intentions

The UCLA product won’t be on the Thunder this season. He may be one of the best shooters coming out of the 2017 Draft (Alford went undrafted), but his skills aren’t developed enough in other areas to play in the NBA right now. Still, it’s a solid bet for Sam Presti to take.

Oklahoma City desperately needs shooting to surround Russell Westbrook; Alford shot 43% from deep in his senior season. He played with the Golden State Warriors in the Summer League, but struggled to find his shot from NBA range.

Going into the Draft I didn’t think Alford was an NBA talent. Even though he’s on the Thunder (yes I tend to be bias) I still don’t see it. The 22-year old is too small to play shooting guard in the NBA – he’s not quick enough nor creative enough to play point guard either.

Hopefully Bryce Alford proves me wrong.
