Top 5 OKC Thunder Rookie Selections in franchise history
No. 1- Russell Westbrook
It shouldn’t be a surprise that the reigning MVP is at the top of our list.
The Thunder struck gold when they selected Westbrook with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Ever since his arrival in Oklahoma City, Westbrook has added an electrifying spark to the organization, and has turned into the team’s franchise player.
Throughout his first nine seasons in the NBA, Westbrook has averaged 22.7 points, 7.9 assists and 6.2 rebounds per-game. The 28-year-old has been named to six All-Star teams and was selected as a two-time All-NBA First Team selection. He also has two NBA All Star Game MVP Awards and two scoring titles under his belt.

However, Westbrook’s biggest accomplishments came during the 2016-2017 season. After losing Kevin Durant, many thought that the OKC Thunder would take a huge step back. However, Westbrook had other plans, as he had a historic season to help lead the Thunder back to the playoffs.
Westbrook recorded 42 triple-doubles, setting the single-season NBA record. He also joined Oscar Robertson as the only two players in league history to average a triple-double for an entire season.
As he’s entering the prime of his career, Russell Westbrook still has a lot to accomplish. If he continues producing at this pace, Westbrook will find himself among the greatest point guards to ever play the game.
