OKC Thunder Roster Fill-In JaMychal Green
MEMPHIS, TN – APRIL 5: JaMychal Green /

With NBA free agent lists dwindling should OKC Thunder take a chance on JaMychal Green as a high flying all purpose front court player.

Thunderous Intentions examines remaining available NBA free agents with a view to adding valuable assets to the OKC Thunder. In this article TI looks at the high flying JaMychal Green.

Current Roster Situation:

Without doubt the OKC Thunder ranked among the top performers of the offseason. Certainly Presti shocked everyone with the trade to land  Paul George. Immediately, this returned the Thunder to the conversation as an upper tier squad.

Yet, two major free agent additions by the OKC Thunder brain trust were equally compelling. Patrick Patterson fills floor spacing via his perimeter shooting; a quality OKC were in short supply of last season. Additionally, Patterson offers top notch defense and his presence alongside Steven Adams should pay immediate dividends.

The OKC Thunder roster currently boasts 16 guaranteed positions.  However, odds are Sam Presti is probably not finished tweaking. If a better fit exists you can be sure Presti will make the move.

In terms of this exercise, let’s assume a trade could be made or player waived to accommodate the addition of a serviceable asset.

Project Roster Fill-In:

Although Patterson adds floor spacing and Felton fills the backup point guard role adding more perimeter scoring and another ball handler would be ideal.

Two options who could fulfill the teams 3-point shooting needs are Doug McDermott and Alex Abrines. With a summer of work and a full training camp ahead these two sharp shooters could add true value and become x factors.

Likewise, the enigma which is Kyle Singler continues to baffle Thunder fans who wonder whether he’s more than just a seat warmer.

Training camp opens in just over a month.  Entering the day the OKC Thunder have 16 guaranteed contracts on the roster.  Heading into that camp additional players will be brought in to compete for the final roster spots.  Billy Donovan and the brain trust will narrow the roster down to a maximum of 15 varsity players and an addition two 2-way G-League contracts.

With a view to filling the majority of team needs let’s look at some NBA Free Agents who fit a specific need. Next up TI looks at  JaMychal Green.
