Welcome to OKC Thunder – In the news for Friday September 1, featuring topical daily news on your favorite team.

September is here finally which means the 2017-18 OKC Thunder squad will soon be headed to training camp.   Paul George is at the forefront of the weekend news as he sends OKC Thunder fans a message. Simultaneously, the Lakers were notified they’ll be paying a steep price for defying the NBA anti-tampering rules in their efforts to land Paul George.

With that, here’s the OKC Thunder In the news for September 1:

Paul George sends Thunder fans a message:

This time of the year is synonymous with the period NBA players amp up their workouts in preparation for training camp. Paul George is no exception. Via his instagram the new OKC Thunder forward sent his new fan base a message while out for a run in LA. Sure looks like PG13 is excited to begin his new journey in Oklahoma City. Plus, the small forward has already learned the vernacular as he ends his message with ThunderUp (the tagline for his new OKC squad).

His full message to fans went a little something like this:

"“I feel like Floyd out here. Getting ready for this season, baby. Ya’ll ready? IS YA’LL READY? Thunder up.”"

The “Floyd” he’s referring to is Floyd Mayweather, the fighter he was in Vegas to see this past weekend. Ironically, during that trip George was spotted on copious occasions in the company of Golden State Warriors Draymond Green. Yes, the same guy who admitted to openly (and illegally) recruiting Kevin Durant.

Lakers fined $500,000 for George tampering:

This above situation is dripping in irony. Why? Because the same day as George’s posted instagram another narrative involving the star was taking NBA center stage.

Simultaneous to George Thunder Up message another team interested in his services were sent a strong message from the NBA.  The team in question are the  Lakers, long been deemed the desired landing place for Paul George.  Earlier this month the NBA announced the Lakers were being formally investigated for defying anti-tampering rules.

An independent law firm has subsequently deemed the Lakers actions were suspect and subsequently fined the franchise $500,000.00.

As per nba.com:

"The conduct at issue involved communications by Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka with the agent representing Paul George that constituted a prohibited expression of interest in the player while he was under contract.  The penalty reflected a previous warning issued by the NBA to the Lakers regarding tampering, following comments made by Lakers President of Basketball Operations Earvin Johnson about Paul George during an April 20 national television appearance."

Look what you made me do:

In case you’re desirous of a little levity instead of the serious nature of the above tampering  news TI scribe Jeremy Lambert has you covered. In his most recent offering Lambert parallels Taylor Swift’s lyrics from her newly released video “Look what you made me do” to OKC Thunder players.

"New Taylor – Russell Westbrook"

"Last year’s Russell Westbrook needs to die. As amazing as he was and as much fun as we had, he can’t be that Westbrook if this team is going to succeed this year. He needs to be a new version of himself. Combine the 2015-16 version with the 2016-17 version and give me the Look What You Made Me Do version of Russell Westbrook."
