Thunderous Intentions has been keeping up with all the OKC Thunder 2K news – now 2K is breaking real Oklahoma City news for us.

This is pretty wild. Nike has four jerseys planned for every NBA team this season; The Association and Icon were released in late July while The Athlete’s mindset and The Community are still unknown. Well maybe not anymore.

Leaks from the upcoming NBA 2K18 shows a “Statement” jersey:

The name is different, but it’s likely that this is in fact one of the two alternate jerseys. My guess is that it’s The Athlete’s Mindset one for a couple reasons.

  1. This jersey doesn’t really scream “Oklahoma City.” If Nike is making a community jersey it’s going to be a classic vibe, not something bold like this.
  2. The word choice of “Statement” for the game sounds something like Russell Westbrook’s mindset. The NBA said The Athlete’s Mindset would be based on the player’s input – the World’s Most Fashionable Athlete is the primary voice for Oklahoma City in that regard.

Keep in mind, we’re not sure this is the actual jersey. But I do want to get my thoughts out on the uniform if this is in fact what the Thunder are rocking with.

  1. I’m kind of disappointed in Russ/the organization. We’ve never had a clean jersey in the ten years of Oklahoma City’s existence. This isn’t a bad jersey, but I don’t want to buy/wear it. I like the primary black color, but the font of the OKC throws me off.
  2. This jersey may look much better depending on how the shorts look. If it’s close to all-black I’m going to clamor for these jerseys a lot more. Westbrook and PG in near all-black would be the cleanest combo in the league.

Supposedly the two alternate jerseys will be released in the fall. Until then we wait.
