Russell Westbrook celebrates second wedding anniversary

Russell Westbrook and wife Nina celebrate their second wedding anniversary in style.

To state the past twelve months for Russell Westbrook have been eventful is on par with calling a fireworks display sparkly. It simply doesn’t do him justice. With the departure of Kevin Durant, Westbrook was thrust into a sole leadership role for his Thunder. No longer in Durant’s shadow or the one pundits could point to as the reason for all OKC’s woes. Instead pundits afforded the OKC Thunder early excuses to fail. But, Westbrook delivered a season for the ages.

With that success came copious awards none the least of which was Most Valuable Player. Each time Westbrook took to the stage to deliver his thank you speech he recognized his teammates and coaches. But, it was how glowingly he spoke of family and the relationship with his wife Nina which resonated for many. As much as Westbrook excelled on the court, his thank you speeches spoke to this all being possible because of his comfort off court.

Of all his accomplishments and awards this past season it’s likely his favorite was becoming a first time father. Wife Nina delivered a healthy boy in May they named Noah.

On August 28, the couple celebrated their second wedding anniversary and took to Instagram to pen love letters and acknowledgements to each other.

Clearly the couple’s fond nickname for each other is ‘suga’.
