More from Thunderous Intentions

Rashard Lewis spent his first nine NBA seasons with the Supersonics.  The 1998 second round pick developed into a very good player, averaging 16.6 points-per-game during his tenure with the franchise.

Scheduled to hit free agency, Lewis was scheduled to receive a big pay day. He ultimately agreed to a six-year, $110 million dollar contract with the Orlando Magic.

At the time, the Supersonics were in no position to pay Lewis close to $20 million per season. Although he left via free agency, the franchise did receive compensation in return.

Along with acquiring a second round pick, Presti was able to generate a $9 million dollar trade exception as part of the deal.

The trade exception wasn’t held for long, but ended up being a very valuable asset for the franchise.
