The Oklahoma City Thunder have enjoyed some of the game’s best floor generals in their short history.

The Oklahoma City Thunder can argue they have the best point guard in the NBA. After all, Russell Westbrook is the reigning MVP following a season spent putting up video game numbers and breaking records.

As the Thunder await Westbrook’s signature on his super max contract they are all too familiar with how important he is to the franchise. And, this isn’t just because Westbrook is a super star or franchise player.  Rather, it’s due to the increased significance of the point guard role in the small ball, position-less era of the NBA.

Ball movement and pace dominate NBA courts and floor generals are the key to success. Yet, the Oklahoma City Thunder realized the importance of the point guard position right from the start of their franchise beginning. Recognizing the point guard was an integral ingredient to a NBA championship team Sam Presti made it a priorty.

Russell Westbrook has been the man at point guard since 2008, but the Thunder have been able to add key point guards in addition to Westbrook over the years.

The Thunder have tried to stay extremely deep at the PG position throughout the years. They have looked to draft young point guards and fill out the roster with solid veteran point guards. The Thunder has been a home to point guards such as Reggie Jackson, Eric Maynor, Nate Robinson, DJ Augustin  and of course Russell Westbrook.

The Thunder have added Raymond Felton to the list of point guards for the 2017-2018 season. He will be a solid floor general to backup Russell Westbrook this season. The pairing of Westbrook and Felton will give the Thunder one of the best point guard rotations they have put together in years.

As the season draw near, Thunderous Intentions takes a look at the top five point guards in Thunder history.
