Thunder in the news is an OKC Thunder fan’s best friend – a daily post dedicated to finding the best Oklahoma City content around the web.

I have great news OKC fans – we’re not talking Kevin Durant Twitter drama today! There’s more to the Thunder than our former superstar, plus nothing positive is coming from the story. Instead we’re going to turn our attention to the current League MVP, preseason projections and Mt. Rushmore lists. Let’s get to it.

Preseason BPI puts the Thunder ahead of Cleveland

If you’re a fan of fancy mathematical formulas simulating entire seasons, this one’s for you. ESPN released their BPI projections for the season; your Thunder come in at 5th in the entire NBA. Sadly the model doesn’t have Oklahoma City in the top five potential Finals matchups. You can blame the Warriors domination for that one.

"In making its game predictions, the model takes into account factors such as the strength of the two teams, the game’s location and rest differential between the two squads. BPI simulates the season 10,000 times to create its projections for both the season and the playoffs."

Russell Westbrook goes on The Ellen Show

What’s that? Russell Westbrook on a national television program? How shocking!! Russ appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday for a quick bit on everything but basketball. His stardom continues to push into new realms this offseason and I’m loving every minute of it.

Building an OKC cult hero Mt. Rushmore

Steven Adams, Dion Waiters, Cameron Payne…the Oklahoma City Thunder have had a plethora of personalities in their nine seasons. Thunder Nation has been blessed to root for a few stars, but that hasn’t stopped us from developing random relationships with the team’s role players. Check out my Mt. Rushmore of the best cult heroes from the OKC era.

"If this Mt. Rushmore could be four Kyle Singler’s it would."

Thanks again for reading! Check back tomorrow – and everyday after that – for another issue of Thunder in the news!!
