Patrick Patterson may well be the most under rated signing by the OKC Thunder this offseason spoke at 2017 Media Day.
Having spent the past 3 and half seasons in Toronto, this was the first Media day for Patrick Patterson in Oklahoma City.
His love for his new team is clear as he consistently references the quality of the organization in any interviews when asked. Although there have been huge All-Star, super star signings this offeseason, Patterson may well be the most underrated signing of the summer.
Patrick Patterson was asked about the his knee and how soon he’ll be ready as the first order of business. Patterson responded the knee is progressing well and he expects to be ready for opening day which is what matters.
A reporter noted how popular Patterson was in Toronto (true) and asked how OKC is different. Patterson notes the fans and people are so heartwarming and loving. He compares the small city to his time in college with Kentucky. The forward says he’s spent lots of time discovering new places and has enjoyed the food. great weather, good food, atmosphere, organization, fans and people in general all make it a compelling destination.
In follow up to this question a reporter asked what OKC has done to suddenly become a desirable destination. This due to Melo opting to join OKC as Patterson and Felton also did. The response was simply “winning”. And, no this was not a Charlie Sheen quote, Patterson firmly believes each of the additions believe they offer something unique which fits this OKC Thunder team which will add in winning.

With the addition of Carmelo Anthony, he was queried on how his role may have changed since his initial signing. Patterson noted he was never told he would start or be a rotation player. Rather, Patterson said he was told primarily of his role.
Specifically, that is to be an energy player who brings quality defense, floor spacing via his 3-point shot and will offer other offensive contributions. Patterson elaborated on his defense stating his ability to switch onto guards will be useful.
Known as a big movie buff (and yes, he returned to Toronto for the film festival), he was asked what his best summer movie was. The Killing Of A Sacred Deer was Patterson’s pick. Although he also noted Mother as another must see. But recommended bringing a paper bag (in case of nausea), insisting staying until the credits is a must.
Ultimately, Patrick Patterson is thrilled to be on OKC. His mindset is to work hard and earn his minutes whether as a starter or as a reserve.
