Thunder in the news is an OKC Thunder fan’s dream – a daily post dedicated to finding the best Oklahoma City content around the web.
Happy Hump Day Thunder Nation! Still in shock over this offseason? You should be. This isn’t normal. But we’re here for it and that’s all that matters. Thunder training camp 2K178 officially began yesterday so there’s a few news and notes we need to get to.
Billy D names Melo the starting power forward
So that’s been confirmed.
Of course Melo got the assurance he was starting before the trade went down. He’ll probably play with the reserves more than George and Westbrook though. Carmelo is the third option on offense now, so he’ll make up for the loss in touches by being the bench leader.
Nick Gallo’s first practice roundup of the year
It feels good to have these back. The Thunder’s official beat writer Nick Gallo went all out for his opening roundup, highlighting comments from George, Anthony and Steven Adams. It appears the Big Kiwi made a great impression both on and off the court with Melo specifically. Check out Gallo’s article to find out exactly what was said.
"The key to it all for Donovan is being able to maximize the skillsets of his players in a meaningful way. Fortunately, that’s the precise quality that attracted Presti and the Thunder organization to Donovan in the first place."
Get to know the Thunder training camp invites
The other guys deserve some love to! Even those who won’t be on the Thunder this year! Oklahoma City is one of the best organization’s at player development in the NBA so it’s important we note who they’re bringing in for extended looks. Bryce Alford, Markel Brown and Rashawn Thomas all could end up on the Thunder in future years – take note of them now.
"The new rule allowing for 2 two-way players adds a new wrinkle to things. Now training camp invites with no chance of making the roster have something to fight for."
That’s it for today’s edition of Thunder in the news. Check Thunderous Intentions every day for both our daily in the news column as well as updates on the happenings of training camp.
