Welcome to OKC Thunder in the news for Saturday October 1, featuring topical news on your team and players.
OKC Thunder in the news October 1, features the response of Russell Westbrook signing closer to home. Thunder Nation spent the day celebrating. Most fans were oblivious of their wide grins sported throughout the day. Preseason games tipped off last night which officially means competitive basketball has been ushered in for the season. Today the OKC Thunder are in action although their competition will be each other.
Thunderfest Today:
The OKC Thunder will play an inter squad game at North Edmund school today at Thunderfest. Although Russell Westbrook won’t be playing he’ll be on hand for fans to wish their congratulations on his new 5-year deal in person. OKC Thunder details the event here:

ThunderFest will be held outside Edmond North High School, 215 W. Danforth Rd. in Edmond, and will get underway at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The full event will be streamed live on okcthunder.com, the Thunder Mobile App, Facebook and Periscope, via Twitter."

Westbrook told him in person. Carmelo was on his way over to Paul George’s house and the latter learned via the NBA TV ticker. All three were understandably happy for Westbrook. Each spoke of how it affects them and the team via video in the tweets below.

With news Russell Westbrook is back with the OKC Thunder, I dove into why most fans believed he would return. First of all, everything he said pointed to his return. The hints were there if you dug deep enough. This article examines those hints plus why Russell Westbrook and OKC Thunder are the perfect partnership of star and community.
"For a community who were shook to their core last offseason Westbrook’s commitment is huge. Not only does it keep a top five (arguably top three) player on their team, debatably it does something far more important. While Kevin Durant may be deemed by most as the better player, his actions have proven he is not the better person, particularly for the humble people of this small market Russell Westbrook is that person. The rest of the NBA may just be learning how special Russell Westbrook is both on and off the court. For the OKC community, they’ve been aware of that fact for years."
That wraps up OKC Thunder in the news for October 1. With Thunderfest today fans can finally witness Paul George, Carmelo Anthony and other new players in their OKC Thunder jerseys and on the court. The first preseason game is Tuesday when the OKC Thunder tip off against the restructured Houston Rockets.
