Thunder in the news: The preseason is finally here
By Tony Heim
Thunder in the news is an OKC Thunder fan’s dream – a daily post dedicated to finding the best Oklahoma City content around the web.
It’s back! They’re back! Oklahoma City Thunder basketball is officially here to stay through at least April. Last night was an interesting first showing for the Thunder. Without Russell Westbrook the team looked to heavily involve Paul George and Carmelo Anthony on offense. It wasn’t exactly what we’re going to see in the regular season, but it was an indicator of what’s to come.
Takeaways from the preseason opener
Where else are you going to find over 1,500 words on a preseason basketball game? Thunderous Intentions, that’s where. If you’re new to the site my five takeaways are a staple for almost every OKC game – the preseason is no different. There’s the obvious ones: Carmelo is going to ball this season. Then there’s the not so obvious takeaways: Steven Adams and his four points were just as impressive. Check them out if you want to impress all your friends with your updated Thunder knowledge.
"The Big Kiwi looks more like The Lean Kiwi after an offseason of intense workouts, but he played stronger than we’ve seen since pre-Draymond nut-kicks."
Russ has a chance at redemption this season
When Kevin O’Connor writes/speaks, you listen. Especially when it’s about your team/superstar. A couple days ago O’Connor dissected the potential of the Thunder this season, specifically how it’s up to Russ to make it work. Every quote from Russ, PG and Melo since the acquisitions make it seem like that’s exactly what’s happening. Take a look at what O’Connor believes is the best gameplan for success this season.
"But Oklahoma City’s success needs to be about more than simply adding Anthony and George. This new era can’t be a repeat of the old. To avoid history repeating itself, Westbrook will need to shred old habits that date back to his time with Durant."
Paul George praises the Thunder locker room
PG must really enjoy playing for Oklahoma City. He’s praised the city, the organization as a whole, and now all of his fellow teammates. Listen to this quick snippet from an interview before yesterday’s preseason opener:
Beautiful. The goal is that George forms such close bonds with his teammates that he couldn’t fathom leaving such a great basketball situation just to be in Los Angeles full-time. It appears they’re making quick progress.
