Thunder in the News: Oklahoma City looking for back-to-back wins
By Tony Heim
Thunder in the News is the best thing to happen to you since the Carmelo Anthony trade. Every day we keep you updated on the latest happenings with the OKC Thunder.
Happy Halloween Thunder Nation – we’re celebrating in accordance.
The thought of playing Giannis Antetokounmpo is spooky in itself. Throw in the fact that Victor Oladipo won Eastern Conference Player of the Week and we have ourselves a wild day.
Previewing tonight’s matchup in Milwaukee
Can the Thunder grab their first back-to-back win of the season today? The potential heir to Russell Westbrook’s MVP lies in their path: Giannis. The man who only needs one name is dominating the NBA to start the season. Oklahoma City can throw multiple defenders at him in Paul George and Andre Roberson, but it’s not going to be easy.
The good news is OKC has a few studs of their own. This is one of a million fun tidbits from the Thunder’s official game notes for tonight’s game.
"The Thunder has three players in the Top 5 league leaders as Russell Westbrook leads the NBA in assists per game (12.2), Steven Adams has the second-best field goal percentage (.679, 38-56 FG) and Paul George has the second-most steals per game (2.67)."
Victor Oladipo wins Eastern Conference Player of the Week
Who would have guessed Victor Oladipo would win a Player of the Week award before Paul George post-trade? I’m happy for him – Dipo deserves everything for the things he did for the Thunder. Although I don’t think his rapid pace is going to continue, I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes the All-Star team in a weak Eastern Conference. Maybe him and Russ can unit again!
"Oladipo has led the Pacers (3-3) in scoring in every game and stands eighth in the NBA with a 25.5 average. It’s his first weekly honor for the fifth-year player from Indiana University."
Salute.
Revisiting the Thunder’s backup center problem
Oklahoma City’s biggest need is size off the bench. Although Josh Huestis and Jerami Grant provide some rim protection, they don’t provide enough on the glass. Our own Lawrence George revisits his backup center piece from the offseason, this time with three new players who are very much available.
"New York and Philadelphia are two clubs figuring out their future direction. Both teams have franchise players in place and are looking for complementary pieces to build around them."
