It’s never a bad thing to explore options that might be available for teams later on in the draft. Some teams have been lucky enough to draft future stars in the second round, and you just never know when you’re going to hit the jackpot on a player.

One player who could be a steal in this year’s draft is red shirt sophomore Malik Newman.

    Newman was once considered a top-10 recruit. After playing his freshman season at Mississippi State, the guard decided to transfer to the University of Kansas.

    After sitting out a year due to NCAA regulations, Newman is ready to make an impact with his new team. Review of this season will offer a better idea if the talented ball-handler can live up to the hype that surrounded him as a high school recruit.

    Especially notable, Newman has a unique knack of being able to create his own opportunities. However, the guard must limit his turnovers, and must learn how to create open shots for his teammates.

    Under Bill Self, Newman will have the chance to rejuvenate his draft stock. There is definitely room to develop, but Newman could be a impact player for a Kansas team that has hopes of competing for a national title this season.
