OKC Thunder In the news for November 18 dives into topical news about your favorite team and players.

Clutch time still needs tweaking:

With a .500 record of 7-7 the OKC Thunder arrived in San Antonio on a three game win streak.  Fans were buoyed by news Steven Adams was returning after a brief absence due to a calf injury. Adding further optimism for the potential to continue the streak was Paul George’s recent success and seeming break through offensively.  Moreover, the opponent’s best player (Kawhi Leonard) remained out nursing his mysterious quad injury.

Still, there were no delusions the journey to finding an offensive balance and identity was imminent for OKC. Certainly there have been flashes, yet the OK3 have yet to find an organic flow and the reserve unit has fallen well short of expectations. Each week the Thunder take a baby step forward with the knowledge at some point everything will click.

Naturally the awkwardness and issues with fit rear their ugly head at the worst time. This is particularly true  in pressure situations. To wit, of the Thunder’s eight losses half were by 4 points or less. In any other season the Thunder’s start could be disastrous, but so many teams are still searching for their own consistency.

The hope is the Thunder find that chemistry and flow soon. It still feels like once the Thunder capture one of these close clutch time games it will lead to a string of wins. It was always said this would take time – logically if the OKC Thunder can hang tough until the end of December that should provide enough game experience for the squad to develop flow and rhythm.

The Real MVP:

At season end Russell Westbrook was honored by the league as the Most Valuable Player on the court. Yet an equally appropriate moniker for him off the court could be Most Valuable Philanthropist.  This week Westbrook’s Why Not Foundation hosted it’s sixth annual Thanksgiving dinner.

Westbrook doesn’t just pay for the event he’s front and center dishing out dinners and based on the photos having a great time doing it.

The OKC Thunder get the weekend off to prepare for another team struggling to find chemistry – the New Orleans Pelicans.
