Today’s In the News’ switches up the theme in hopes that it in turn reverces the fortunes of the OKC Thunder.
Happy Game Day Thunder Nation! The last two In the News’ have been centered around Oklahoma City’s inconsistencies and shortcomings, so today we’re going to promote positivity. The Thunder are back in Playoff position with the opportunity to break .500 tonight. Their superstar point guard has shot 50% or better two games in a row. And most importantly, there’s not even a consideration of blowing things up.
30 games in and the message remains the same
So I kinda got excited and already spoiled the gist of this post. Oh well. Yesterday’s Bleacher Report feature on the Thunder discussed how OKC continues to preach patience – it also included inside information. According to the report, Sam Presti is not even going to consider trading Paul George no matter how bad this team looks before the trade deadline. Whether or not the info is 100% accurate is TBD, but it shows the Thunder organization remain adamant about winning.
"But he handled the questions much better than he or anyone else in a Thunder uniform has handled those looks at the basket so far."
Carmelo attempting to find his new role…again?
It was on the first day of this very month when this question first arose. Is Carmelo Anthony comfortable taking a significantly less amount of shots? Back-to-back games of 10 shots or less had us thinking yes, then Melo quickly reverted back to his chucking ways. The 12-time All Star scaled it back once again Monday night, only attempting six shots against Denver. Listen to his post-game comments and it seems like that’s a conscious decision he’s made for the greater good of the team:
One easy solution that could go a long way
And to wrap things up, I present to you my fool proof plan for the Thunder.
Since moving to Oklahoma City this team has been built around one staple: length and athleticism. Here lies yet another team built to push the ball and wreak havoc on a basketball court. Instead we only see that brand of ball on one end of the court. I dive into how simply pushing the tempo would do wonders for the Thunder, specifically Russell Westbrook. Hope you enjoy it.
"Yet here we stand, 30 games into the season, and a team led by Russell Westbrook is 22nd in the league in possessions per game. That is simply unacceptable."
