Thunder in the News: Presti refusing to part ways with PG
By Tony Heim
There’s one thing OKC Thunder in the News and Paul George has in common: we’re here to stay (at least this season).
Happy Gameday Thunder Nation! Shake off that Phoenix Suns loss because we have a legitimate Playoff team visiting the Peake tonight. The Trail Blazers are playing without star point guard Damian Lillard, but as we all know, that far from guarantees a Thunder win. Will they ultimately pull it off? I don’t know, and I’m not here to make predictions. That’s what our full preview is for 😉
Woj “Bomb” allows Thunder fans’ to stop worrying
As if we didn’t already now this, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski made it official. Paul George will not be moving anywhere this season because the Thunder believe in themselves to make a big enough push in the Playoffs. Woj noted that George is solely focused on this year and this year only – that is also fantastic news. As long as PG isn’t listening to others, and as long as he keeps enjoying his time in Oklahoma City, I feel good about the Thunder’s chances of resigning him.
"Before the trade deadline, there are two answers that OKC GM Sam Presti probably won’t get from George and his agent, Aaron Mintz: 1. Yes, I plan to re-sign. 2.No, I plan to leave."
The key lies in the OKC outsiders
This belief lays true for virtually every contending team in any sport. The stars lay the foundation, but true success is impossible without talented role players. The Ringer’s Paolo Uggetti discussed Oklahoma City’s “others,” specifically Steven Adams, Andre Roberson…and Terrance Ferguson? Full disclosure: I don’t agree with him that Ferguson is the new sixth man for the Thunder. Other then that he’s spot on with everything he has to say.
"Adams credits the team’s recent improvement to simple execution, but also the extra time they’ve played together."
Explaining the inconsistent play with simply human psychology
And finally, we take a look at Thunder fans’ biggest complaint surrounding this team. Why do they always seem to step up for big games only to lose to the NBA’s worst rosters? Our writer Joshua Lea tackles that question with a wonderful answer, one we all can empathize with.
"When your boss says you’re working with this person, you instantly check out."
