With All-Star weekend quickly approaching, thoughts turn to Three-Point Shootouts and Dunk Contests. That begs the question: which Thunder player would win an OKC-only Dunk Contest?
Imagine this: four Oklahoma City Thunder players face off in a hypothetical, intrasquad Dunk Contest. We couldn’t afford any All-Stars, so the contest will have a judge panel comprised primarily of former Thunder players. There will be two rounds with only one dunk apiece, and then a championship between the two highest scorers. You get only two misses per round. Let’s meet our judges.
OKC Thunder Dunk Contest Judges
- Nick Collison – Mr. Thunder may be known more for his steadying presence than his dunking-prowess, but few could argue that Collison deserves a spot on this esteemed panel of judges. (OKC Thunder, 2008 – present)
- Nate Robinson – Little Nate played for OKC for about 45 minutes in 2011, including the postseason. That still means he is a former Thunder player, and he has the most Dunk Contest experience here. (OKC Thunder, 2011)
- Jeff Green – An underrated dunker, Green was a staple for the original Thunder squads. We thank him for taking time away from the Cleveland Cavs to be here. (OKC Thunder, 2008 – 2011)
- Serge Ibaka – A long-tenured Thunder player eventually traded for young wing talent, it took some convincing to get Serge to come. He repped OKC in an actual dunk contest, so we had to have him. (OKC Thunder, 2009 – 2016)
- Rumble the Bison – A PR stunt for the kiddos, Rumble is probably just going to give out 10’s to everyone. It is what it is. (OKC Thunder mascot 2009 – present)
OKC Thunder Dunk Contest Participants
- Russell Westbrook – The undisputed angriest dunker on the roster, Russ is a no-brainer for the contest.
- Paul George – A participant in the 2012 and 2014 NBA All-Star Dunk Contests, George is another shoe-in. His experience may make him the favorite to win.
- Jerami Grant – The dark horse. Grant’s in-game dunks often seem effortless, so it will be interesting to see what he can do when he pushes his length to the limit.
- Terrance Ferguson – He might not be a household name yet, but OKC fans are familiar with what T-Ferg can do. So is YouTube.
Without further adieu, let’s begin the contest with the first round of dunks.
