A chance to extend their winning streak to five gives the OKC Thunder a reason to be feeling fantastic.

As a fan, it’s really a shame that it’s been two whole days since the last Thunder game. I’m sure the players couldn’t be happier though. Oklahoma City has had ample opportunity to break down the game film from Saturday’s 148-point performance to figure out how they can replicate that offensive explosion moving forward. It won’t be easy – there may not be a defense in the NBA worse than the Cavs. But the fact of the matter is, this team is on the right track. The players AND pundits seem to agree.

David Aldridge gives Thunder much-garnered praise

Five spots – that’s how much Oklahoma City impressed David Aldridge the past week. The Thunder jumped from 12 to 7 in David’s weekly “Top 15 Rankings,” one spot ahead of the team they just destroyed.

Here’s the thing – I’m glad the Thunder didn’t move up any higher. Even with their high ceiling, this team is still too inconsistent to put above the San Antonio’s of the world. I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if another week of undefeated play (or even one loss) garners OKC a jump over Miami in Aldridge’s next post.

"Andre Roberson back from knee tendinitis, getting OKC’s premier defensive five-man lineup — sixth-best in the league in Defensive Rating (95.6 per 100) among regular (100 minutes minimum) — back on the court."

Carmelo keeps it real for the people

We’ve heard this message from Melo a couple weeks ago, but it’s good that he’s also acknowledging the bright side of OKC’s energy conundrum. Tonight is a good test for this team – Brooklyn comes to town for another battle. The Thunder lost to them earlier in the season in Mexico City so they’ll be looking for revenge. They’ll also be looking to move within three games of the three seed.

Haven’t heard the phrase “fire Billy Donovan” recently…

And why is that? Because the Thunder are winning. Oklahoma City’s offensive struggles have dissipated as their three stars have become more comfortable playing together. What was perceived to be a Billy Donovan issue actually was more of the players’ inability to change their games for the greater good. Our own Josh Lea details how Presti’s patience with Donovan’s long-view approach is now paying off in the second half of the season.

"However, whether you believe in him as a coach or not isn’t the issue. He, like the rest of the team, is learning on the fly."
