Thunder News: Russell Westbrook drops 46 thinking he was LeBron’s last pick

OKC Thunder In the news January 26 serves up a Russell Westbrook extravaganza of hot topics.

As the OKC Thunder dropped the bomb on the Wizards Russell Westbrook was at the heart of the victory.  In the News dives in to the hottest stories of the day and like the Wizards win, Westbrook is the key in each of these offerings.

Anthony had Westbrook believing he was LeBron’s last selection:

Whether Russell Westbrook put up a season high in the Wizards game based on pregame motivation or not will remain an unknown. But, based on the post game comments it seems Carmelo Anthony convinced Russ he was the last player LeBron picked. This came about because LeBron posted his roster on social media.

When asked by reporters how he felt about being on Team LeBron, Melo shouts from the back ground “tell them how you really feel”. To this, Westbrook says “I see I was the last one picked” and the reporters inform Russ the list posted was alphabetical. To this, Russ yells back at Melo “see I told you man” then jokes “I know I was the first one picked”.

All jokes aside, Westbrook will be playing alongside former teammate and nemesis Kevin Durant. To that end, it makes me wonder whether LeBron James enjoys being embroiled in controversy or perhaps the former stars don’t truly have as much of a beef as fans believe.

Team LeBron offers plenty of potential turmoil:

Also notable is the selection of Kyrie Irving to team LeBron. This situation was already going to be under scrutiny, But, the timing of Brian Windhorst’s news that Irving threatened to have knee surgery if he wasn’t moved adds fuel to the fire. Windhorst is a long time media confident of LeBron James, so presumably this is where the intel was leaked. Yet, why disclose this information now?

Is it due to the turmoil in Cleveland? Is it to shed some light on why the trade happened? Or to shine extra light on what is becoming presumably a bad relationship between Isaiah Thomas and LeBron. Barring further information scribes and fans are left to speculate.

Although many of the BBoyz love Thomas, I’ve always viewed him as a bit of a prima donna. My feelings aligned pretty much with Shannon Sharpe who ranted about Thomas calling out Love.  I’m in full agreement with Sharpe.  Kevin Love has never been anything but a professional since joining the Cavaliers. Love has accepted his role without question and is undeniably the second best player on the Cavs.

For Thomas to play less than a handful of games and then attack Love is unacceptable. Especially since his presence on the court is hurting Love’s production. I agree, Thomas was adored in Boston and it seems one year of being a top producer has gone to his head a bit. Thomas should be careful or he may find himself being the piece who gets traded and to a team who won’t even be in the conversation for title pursuits.

Westbrook delivers wizardry versus Washington:

Is it just me or is Russell Westbrook on fire? The BeastBrook show is on full display lately with several stand out performances. In the Washington game which extended the OKC Thunder win streak to six Russ delivered a season high point total of 46 points.

Even his teammates are in awe of his unique talents. Earlier this season Paul George spoke of adjusting to the Western Conference speed. George elaborated on this by stating it was even more difficult getting used to Westbrook’s speed coining it ‘Russ speed’.

Carmelo Anthony is joining the admiration society telling the media scrum he finds himself ‘Russ watching’ at times.

Russ models new Jumpman fashions

Not surprisingly Russell Westbrook who is aligned with the Jordan Brand was selected to model the new Jumpman 23 uniforms and shoes. Westbrook looks like he’s about to go BeastBrook on his opponent in the image.
