Jonathan Simmons trade idea for OKC Thunder
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – DECEMBER 20: Andre Roberson /

OKC Thunder should target Jonathan Simmons as replacement for Andre Roberson for playoff push.

Its been less than a week but the OKC Thunder need to find a defensive player to pair with Paul George. With Andre Roberson out for the season, Sam Presti needs to solidify defense at the shooting guard position. With the Orlando Magic contemplating a rebuild, Oklahoma City should target third year guard Jonathan Simmons.

The OKC Thunder must continue their march towards the playoffs without defensive ace Andre Roberson. Dre underwent successful surgery that repaired a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season.

Oklahoma City are currently running with Terrance Ferguson and Alex Abrines as their rotational shooting guards. Although TFerg has been fantastic in his rookie season, he is often over matched against star guards.

He needs to add some pounds to his skinny frame to compete physically but that will come with time. Abrines is a tough watch. While he is dangerous from beyond the arc (career 38 percent), Abrines can’t guard a soul. When he graces the court, opposing teams seek his match-up and take advantage of his porous defense.

This leaves Oklahoma City seeking a defensive sidekick to pair with Paul George. The Thunder have limited trade assets and little cap room to make a substantial trade at the deadline. With PG13 likely to command a max contract this summer, Sam Presti must also maintain a degree of financial flexibility.

One target who fits OKC’s need is Orlando Magic guard Jonathan Simmons.
