The fan who approached Russell Westbrook in Denver is banned

For Russell Westbrook and the OKC Thunder the game in Denver on Thursday was like a roller coaster. The squad looked listless and tired which they had reason to be given their schedule and travel. After falling behind by double digits the Thunder dug deep to scratch and claw their way back in the match. Just as it seemed the squad was about to head to overtime Gary Harris put the nail in the coffin.

As much as it was a disheartening loss it offered some enticing moments. The BBoyz convened at Chez Tambz to watch the series of games that evening.  The crazy thing was no one was surprised by Russ’ 21 assists. nor was they shocked by Paul George’s performance. Living in the east the PG13 performance in Denver was common for the BBoyz crew to witness.

What did draw our attention was the fan incident at the end of the game.

In hindsight, in this scribe’s opinion the NBA made the proper decision on all counts. Westbrook should not have been penalized. As the group discussed that night it might be a natural instinct to push someone out of your personal space. Particularly with emotions running high from the loss as well as looking up to see a stranger who should not be on the court right in front of you.

The NBA is so unique to major league sports because the fans are directly on the court. Furthermore, player popularity is greater than ever especially because social media seemingly makes the athletes more accessible.

This was an important benchmark for the NBA to take. Being a passionate fan is is wonderful, but there is a line and I’m glad it was made clear by the powers that be who addressed the situation.

Kudos to the Denver Nuggets franchise and the Association for acting swiftly and accurately.
