How trade deadline affects OKC Thunder amid winners and losers
LeBron James:
The King made his feelings known regardless of how cryptically he did so. Leading up to the deadline James post-game pressers cited the fact he wasn’t the one making decisions about moves. The look on his face, however, told the story that he expected moves to be made. Odds are his management team (or even himself directly) told the power that is what he expected.
After scoring the winning bucket versus the Wolves he completely ignored Isaiah Thomas choosing instead to celebrate with Cedi Osman. LeBron’s head games have long been known, but that message to management was about as clear as it gets.
Additionally, James refused to commit to the Cavaliers long term so the balls are all his court.
In the short term, LeBron gets precisely what he wants with a younger more athletic team and the players he wanted gone (other than Dwyane Wade) out the door.
Long term Altman retained the Brooklyn Nets pick so a quality prospect can be added this summer.
In terms of what the King’s plans are, for as many pundits who say he’s already decided to leave there is an equal number who’ll say his plans are to stay home. Tune in July 4th to get your answer (hopefully not via a television program).
Effect on OKC Thunder:
As noted with the Cleveland segment, the beating the Thunder put on the Cavaliers is still fresh in the King’s mind. But, the one thing to keep in mind here is fans could get a bit of insight on where James’ head is at for this summer. Generally, LeBron would want blood after a shellacking like the Thunder served up. But, he was all smiles post-game which I found odd, especially since he didn’t even wait for the post-game pleasantries in Toronto, he left the bench even prior to the buzzer sounding.
Therefore, keep an eye to see how he attacks Paul George and the interaction between the air pregame, during the game, and especially post-game.
