OKC Thunder: Analyzing stretch run schedules with view to seeding
OKC Thunder:
Week 22 for the Thunder threw a wrench in the plans, particularly the loss in Boston which could forever haunt this squad. Sure there are 82 games, but it will be hard not to focus on this game, especially if the Thunder lose out on landing a higher seed because a tiebreak ends up deciding their fate. OKC somewhat atoned for this on Friday with the win over Miami, but lost a battle Sunday versus the Blazers.
Remaining schedule includes:
- At San Antonio Spurs, Thursday 29
- Denver Nuggets, Friday 30
- At New Orleans Pelicans, April Sunday 1
- Golden State Warriors, Tuesday 3
- At Houston Rockets, Saturday 7
- At Miami Heat, Monday 9
- Memphis Grizzlies, Wednesday 11
With the fewest games left to play of the potential playoff seeds the Thunder gain a bit of a rest advantage over their competition. Then they lose an advantage since six of their remaining seven games are against those same potential playoff seeds. Of the seven games, four are on the road. Although each of the contending teams offers challenges, arguably the back to back they’ll play this coming week will be the most challenging.
Obviously the goal is to win out, but the one game with the most emphasis on it is San Antonio so OKC capture the tiebreak in case they are aligned in the first round. Again, all the games are important, but another shellacking of Golden State wouldn’t hurt their confidence.
