OKC Thunder: Analyzing stretch run schedules with view to seeding
New Orleans Pelicans:
As mentioned above the Pelicans made a big move with the three consecutive wins. However the loss to Houston on Saturday served to help OKC moving them ahead of New Orleans again.
Remaining schedule includes:
- Portland Trail Blazers, Tuesday 27
- At Cleveland Cavaliers, Friday 30
- OKC Thunder, Sunday April 1
- Memphis Grizzlies, Wednesday 4
- Begin road trip at Phoenix Suns, Friday 6
- At Golden State Warriors, Saturday 7
- LA Clippers, Monday 9
- San Antonio Spurs, Wednesday 11
The Pelicans have an uphill battle without DeMarcus Cousins. Two things have helped make that job easier. The first is the all out MVP like performances of Anthony Davis. The other is the under the radar move to bring in Nikola Mirotic who may not be Boogie Cousins, but his presence on court offers some of the same tangibles because he can spread the court and is a solid rebounder.
With the loss to Houston the Pelicans fell back to sixth giving OKC a full game distance on them. However the Thunder and Spurs losses Sunday moved New Orleans back into fifth.
Of their eight games remaining half are on the road, six versus playoff contenders with one back to back set.
The overwhelming feeling with the Pelicans, however is their position is so precarious. Much of this is due to the load Anthony Davis must carry and his penchant for injury.
