By Alex Mcewen
Billy Donovan and the Thunder have been on a wild roller coaster all season. Since the ride is winding down let’s take a deep dive into who is at fault.
The season has come and gone in a flash with only five games remaining Billy Donovan and his OKC Thunder are the biggest disappointment in the NBA. No sugar-coating, nor positivity from this scribe today. Only the harsh reality that is the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Not long ago there was a point in time where each year the Thunder had improved from the last. Winning one, or more games than the previous year. The team peaked at 60 wins during the 2012-13 season. OKC has not reached the 60 win plateau since.
*Excluding the lockout shortened 11-12 season.
Many readers are probably asking why or coming up with a myriad list of reasons as to why the team has underachieved. The truth is there is not one single reason, but multiple reasons to what ails the Thunder.
At the end of the day it boils down to two variables the players, or the coach. Many analyst will look at the Thunder identify the problem, or the perceived problem, then point at Russell Westbrook.
Much like anything in life, it is not that simple. Automatically blaming Westbrook for the Thunder’s shortcomings is not telling the full story. Therefore, let’s dive deeper into subject in the next slide, by continuing to discuss Westbrook.
As I build a case showcasing how Billy Donovan is really the man at fault here.
