5 takeaways from OKC Thunder historic 25 point comeback victory
Joe Ingles is STILL getting wide-open looks.
Although Joe Ingles isn’t the fastest guy in the NBA, nor the slowest, he repeatedly got wide-open looks. Some of this can be attributed to the solid screen setting of Rudy Gobert and other Jazz players.
Not allowing Ingles to get wide open perimeter shots has to be one of Billy Donovan’s key adjustments. In Game 5, with Gobert in foul trouble, it did affect Ingles shot opportunities. Aside from the Ricky Rubio aided win Ingles has been a perimeter factor. In Games 3 and 4, Ingles shot 10 and 11 times from deep connecting on 5 of 10 and 5 of 11 respectively. In Game 5 he hit another 4 of 9 attempts.
Perhaps there isn’t a solution to stop him given his prowess for efficiency from behind the arc. Still, the key will be at a bare minimum getting a hand up in his face and at best running him off the line.
That said, the next key point ties directly into this one.
