Recently fired coaches

As of now, here are the head coaches who have been fired: Frank Vogel (Magic), Jeff Hornaceck (Knicks), Steve Clifford (Hornets), Jason Kidd (Bucks), David Fizdale (Grizzlies), Earl Watson (Suns) and Mike Budenholzer (Hawks).

Out of this bunch, Frank Vogel might have the best chance of getting the position. Vogel seems like a natural fit for the spot, especially if George decides to stay. Vogel coached George for all six years he was in Indiana, so he already has a strong connection.

Watson could have an outside chance, as a former player in Indiana and Oklahoma City. He was a part of the Sonic’s team which moved to Oklahoma City in 2008. Watson also missed playing alongside George in his rookie campaign by one season, leaving Indiana to play in Utah in 2011.

Most recently, Watson parted ways with the Suns after three games as the head coach this past season, but also served as the interim head coach for part of the 2016 season. One might think Watson doesn’t have the resume, but Presti took a gamble on a college coach, so anything can happen.
