Carmelo Anthony season review – Aging superstar at career precipice
Carmelo Anthony season lows
In a season in which Carmelo Anthony only hit 40 percent of his shots (career low), there were unfortunately more lows than high points.
Nine times this season, Melo played typical starter’s minutes and did not score in double-digits. In fact this was the the first season in which he never scored 30 or more points in a game. His worst scoring outing was 2 points on 1 for 7 shooting against the San Antonio Spurs back on March 10th in a win.
Another game which stood out was Anthony’s return to the Mecca. This more so because of his old teammates encouraging Melo to play isoball knowing he would be only too happy to oblige. It might not register as his lowest production game (12 points on 5 of 18 from the field. As the Garden chirped at each unsuccessful Melo iso play the ultimate salt came with the Knicks defeating OKC by 15 points. Shortly after this game Donovan switched Anthony’s role to primarily catch and shoot.
Carmelo had a triumphant return to the playoffs this year as shown above. Unfortunately, it was downhill from game 1.
His career-worst field goal percentage dipped further – to .375 in the playoffs. If it wasn’t Joe Ingles lighting him up from the perimeter it was Derrick Favors bullying him in the paint. The true low came in game 5, where the OKC Thunder looked better without him, going on a run to win the game.
He started again in game six, but only responded by scoring 7 points.
