Carmelo Anthony season review – Aging superstar at career precipice
Off the court – Hoodie Melo
Carmelo “Hoodie Melo” Anthony graced us with his presence pre-season. The hood-up look became part of his new OKC Thunder persona for practices and media addresses. Thunder fans took to it with the hopes that it was related to “Team USA Melo”.
It was not. Hoodie Melo dissipated in time, revealing the same Carmelo, just seemingly aged and stoic.
Hoodie Melo laughed pre-season about coming off the bench. Post-season, regular Melo reiterated his refusal to adopt a bench role, which was even more concerning. His play certainly seemed to blend better with the second unit. But I digress…
The Carmelo Anthony Foundation
Things are a little quiet over on The Carmelo Anthony Foundation website. This possibly has something to do with Carmelo’s move to the midwest from the hustle and bustle of New York City. The mission of the foundation is below:
"The mission of our nonprofit organization is to positively impact the lives of those living in under-served communities through 3 key focus areas – education, recreation & community outreach."
Early in the season, Melo started a YouCaring fundraiser for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and Mexico back in September.
Melo was named a Top 20 Philanthropist Under 40 in NYC by the New York Observer back in 2015, so he is no doubt continuing to make positive impacts behind the scenes.
