The 2018 NBA Draft Combine runs from May 16th through May 20th.  TI offers the event profile providing participant list, T.V. listings and break down of event.

Although the OKC Thunder won’t select until the second round with the 53rd and 57th picks they’ll be paying close attention to the 70 prospects expected at the combine.

During the event several levels of management from each of the 30 teams in the Association will be on hand. Not all prospects attend (or are invited), but a good subsection of athletes use this time to make an impression. In recent years Cody Zeller and Zach LaVine’s stock rose dramatically following strong test results.

The event began yesterday with medicals, interviews and the measurement portion. Skills testing and five on five scrimmages will take place during televised portions. These can be viewed on ESPN2 Thursday May 17 and Friday May 18 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time (or 2 – 6 p.m. CT).

Measurements and tests:

The types of measurements and skills include:

  • Wingspan measurement
  • Standing reach
  • Standing vertical leap
  • Max vertical leap
  • Shuttle run
  • Lane agility
  • Three quarter spring
  • Break left and right shooting percentage
  • Corner left/corner right shooting percentage
  • On the move fifteen shooting percentage
  • Top of key shooting percentage

During the four hour segments analysts will talk to prospects and air portions of the skills testing, and scrimmages.

Participants:

70 prospects will attend the combine. Initially 69 prospects were scheduled to participate, one withdrew and two more were added. The upper echelon of prospects will hold private workouts with teams, so players expected to be drafted in the top three picks like Deandre Ayton and Luka Doncic won’t be on site.

Other top prospects will be on site, but they may only meet with executives for interviews , medicals or partake in skills testing. Still others looking to make an impression will play in the scrimmages.
