Russell Westbrook Season Review: Twice in a lifetime
Russell Westbrook – Twice the guy we deserve:
The most ironic thing about Russell Westbrook’s tenure with the OKC Thunder has always been the degree to which he actually, unexpectedly epitomized the values of his fans.
More from Thunderous Intentions
- One player the Thunder should target on each team in the Southeast Division
- Chet Holmgren comment proves that the OKC Thunder front office is different
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
To an outsider, Russ’s scowls and screams, his cursing and colorways will always serve to distance him from the values of conservative Oklahoma.
Yet, for all his bluster and rage and color, Russ is the man who showed loyalty. He’s the man who’s been in a committed, wonderful relationship since college. He’s the one who put a map of his old hometown, Los Angeles, on his signature shoe, but not until after he had agreed to re-sign with his new home-town, OKC.
It will never cease to be amazing, the degree to which the state of Oklahoma overestimated a certain Forward, who finally revealed that he possessed none of the traits for which he had always been admired.
It will never cease to be embarrassing, the degree to which the state of Oklahoma underestimated Russell Westbrook.
