Having already explained my thoughts about MPJ’s back there’s no need to reiterate them. And, in spite of those concerns, Porter is still considered a potential superstar if his back is healthy.  He falls into the high risk-reward category. And, if he does return from the injury unscathed for some reason I think it may take a few years for him to find his groove.

Either playing alongside LeBron could expedite his progress, or if the king leaves Cleveland he represents a potential star building block. Plus, don’t you want to see the dynamics of MPJ with LeBron anyway — just in case he stays?

Besides none of the other talents make as much sense with James. Young will need the ball in his hands, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who the Cavs are said to be fond of, won’t offer perimeter scoring which is what LeBron covets most from his teammates.

Team needs:

Do you see that big elephant in the room? Well, let’s just say the Cavaliers enter draft night with a myriad of obstacles to address. First of all the roster, as witnessed in the finals needs to add two-way players. In particular, ones who can shoot from the perimeter with efficiency, but who can also defend above average. This would go a long way to help LeBron James. Oh, wait— the king may not even be on this squad next season if he (as expected) elects to opt-out of his contract and enter into  ‘The Decision’ part trois.

Interestingly, the one player who arguably fills the LeBron caveats is Jeff Green and he might bolt in free agency.

In a world without LeBron, the Cavaliers will need starting-caliber players at the first three positions and particularly at the point.
