Salary Profile:
Milos Teodosic opted into his contract removing what might have been a very interesting free agency recruitment period. The Clippers enter the moratorium in a rather unique situation having assumed DeAndre Jordan might opt in to enable the franchise to complete another sign and trade, but he chose to opt-out.
Of note, the Austin Rivers for Marcin Gortat trade didn’t add too much in salary ($915,218). Also of note although Milos Teodosic opted in his salary is only partially guaranteed ($.3 million). C.J. Williams is also partially guaranteed ($1,378,242) while Patrick Beverley’s contract is non-guaranteed ($5,027,028).
The Clippers have exceptions via the bi-annual ($3.4M), non-tax midlevel ($8.6), and small trade exceptions.

Draft 2018:
Round 1:
With the 11th pick, the Clippers (via Hornets) selected Kentucky guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Rookie Profile: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander offers elite role player potential
With the 13th pick, the Clippers selected Boston College guard Jerome Robinson
Rookie Profile: Playmaking sharpshooter Jerome Robinson climbs ranking lists
Free Agency – Offseason Mandate:
The Clippers got the better end of the Wizards trade for Gortat who can immediately play at center regardless of what DJ does. Although the Robinson draft pick confused me I loved the move to get Gilgeous-Alexander. It has Jerry West’s fingerprints all over it.
It’s too bad the Clippers don’t have the same pull the Lakers do because in many ways they are set up better in terms of depth and proven talent.
I think the writing is on the wall for DJ to leave which makes retaining Montrezl Harrell imperative. I’m intrigued to see what direction the Clippers go in and which players they target in free agency. LA is overflowing at the point and seemingly will need to move at least one point guard and perhaps Patrick Beverley’s durable has caught up to him. Where the Clippers definitely need to add depth is upfront. The question is whether they’ll target a star or practice patience to build a new core.
One has to wonder if Kawhi cares whether he plays for the Lakers or the Clippers. If it isn’t an issue then the Clippers need to sidle up to the Spurs dinner table. DJ opting out makes it less doable, but if the Clippers can involve a third team then they need to take the shot.
