Kids today may not remember the athleticism of Gerald Green in his prime. But after proving he’s still capable scorer at times might make him an interesting player to pursue this NBA free agency period.

When Gerald Green was released by the Milwaukee Bucks after training camp in 2017, he set out on a mission to extend his career. And he did just that this past season in Houston. Signing for less than $1 million with the Rockets, Green proved there’s a lot left in his tank.

For a guy who relied heavily on his athleticism throughout his career, it was pretty impressive to see what Green was able to accomplish last season. Especially considering his limited role with a great Houston team.

The Specifics:

  • Height: 6’7
  • Position: Shooting Guard
  • Age: 32
  • Experience: 11-years
  • Type of free agent: Unrestricted
  • Hometown: Houston, TX
  • Previous salary: $947,248

Although the Thunder have their fair share of scoring options, Green would get his opportunity with the second unit. Oklahoma City’s bench had the worst scoring bench in the league, so plugging him in would alleviate the issue to some extent. Green would also space the floor for the OK3 and be able to hold his own defensively.

While Green is no longer jumping out of the gym or playing starter minutes, he would be an excellent spark off the bench OKC has been searching for. His price tag may have risen due to his recent success, but it could still be low enough for Sam Presti to bid on.
