After news broke of Paul George returning to the OKC Thunder, it kept on coming. Jerami Grant agreed to come back to the loud city shortly after PG13 returned.

June 30th, 2018 is a day no OKC Thunder fan should ever forget. Paul George returned to the organization after everyone said all hope was lost. While that move might overshadow Jerami Grant’s signing when this day is talked about years from now, on the court it will not be discounted.

Jerami Grant is the perfect embodiment of position-less basketball. Grant can log minutes at the two, the three, four, or five on any given night. Heck, at any given minute the Swiss army knife can be deployed by Billy Donovan at any position.

More from Thunderous Intentions

Grant improved drastically as the season went along. When the trade came down for Jerami Grant many OKC Thunder fans wrote him off. However, since that November 2016 night, he has proven his worth to the fans and organization.

Last year he became the OKC Thunder’s back up center once the playoffs rolled around. He performed extremely well. He is the definition of a glue guy, but still Grant has room to take that next step.

Many fans would love to see Jerami Grant in a starting role. However, his firepower and energy off the bench can not be undervalued.

Would the organization really pay $27-Million for a bench piece? For 2018-19 that is up to Carmelo Anthony. If he is bought into his role, reducing his minutes, while still being announced as a starter, then yes Grant would be great off the bench. However, if Melo is bought out, it will be hard to keep such a talented player as a sixth man.
